Our Staff
Bill and Sabina McMahon have been directing Moosilauke for over 30 years. Along with his role at Moosilauke, Bill is also the Director of Enrollment and Planning at The Thacher School in Ojai, CA. Sabina, a lifelong educator who worked at the Nightingale-Bamford School, the Northfield Mount Hermon School, and most recently the Thacher School, is engaged with Moosilauke year-round. They both attended Colgate University and received graduate degrees from Columbia. Bill earned his M.B.A. and Sabina her master’s in Education. The Boston Globe, in a feature article, wrote that Bill and Sabina have “earned unofficial doctorates in boyhood.” (Click here to read the article.) A parent recently wrote, “Bill and Sabina McMahon’s gifts for understanding boys are on display in everything from the well-trained staff to the activities to the food. They put their heart and soul into Moosilauke and we are the beneficiaries. Whatever success my son has in life, it will be in part because of the values, camaraderie and pure joy Camp Moosilauke gave him.”
Our senior administrators are all part of the McMahon/Miller/Hale family. Ken Miller, Sabina’s brother, is the Associate Director. During the off-season, Ken lives in Colorado. He graduated from Colgate, with a Master of Arts in Teaching. Sabina and Ken’s sister, Ingrid Hale, is the Business Manager. Ingrid also graduated from Colgate and earned her master’s in Nonprofit Studies at the University of Richmond. She lives in Richmond, VA, and works in college admissions. Todd Gelfand serves as our all-around operations troubleshooter. Todd was a camper for eight years and then a counselor in the 1970s. When not at Moosilauke, he lives in Los Angeles and is the Managing Partner of a C.P.A. firm.
The third generation of Millers and McMahons are our Head Counselors. Preston Miller, Ken’s oldest, graduated with a master’s degree from Colorado State University, teaches humanities and coaches track and cross country at the Mountain School in Vermont. Ken’s younger son, Jake, also a graduate of Colorado State University with a Masters in Science Education, is a science teacher and coach at Vermont Academy in Saxtons River, Vermont. Jake is currently earning his master’s in Science Education. Quinn, Bill and Sabina’s oldest son, graduated from Colgate and is an Associate Director of Admission at the Thacher School. Charlotte, Quinn’s wife, earned her Master of Arts in Teaching degree at Colgate. She is the Dean of Students at the Pomfret School.
